Diving in Cabo San Lucas


Overlooking the Sea of Cortez and experiencing some of the best weather year-round, Cabo San Lucas is considered to be on of the top vacation destinations in Mexico. Luxury resorts, nightlife, beaches and weather all attract visitors from around the world. SCUBA diving is just another attraction that brings the more adventurous tourists to this area. With some of the richest oceans in the world, the Sea of Cortez has countless treasures for underwater explores.

With three major ocean currents converging in one area, the Sea of Cortez is blessed with abundant and healthy marine life. The plankton-rich waters provide the base of this thriving food chain which consists of more than 800 species of fish. And it’s not only quantity that you can expect to see on a trip below the surface; the Sea of Cortez is home to several species of fish seen in other parts of the world. Some of these include whale sharks, giant manta and the infamous hammerhead shark. In addition to more uncommon sea creatures, many dives in the area allow you to see various types of tropical reef fish, small sharks, sea lions, sea turtles, corals, sponges sea fans and much more.

When it comes to dive conditions, it doesn’t get much better than Cabo San Lucas. To begin with, the water temperature stays between 78 and 85 degrees all year long! Depending on the weather and location, visibility can be as much as 100 ft. For the beginning diver, there are more than ample close-shore dives spots which are located in the shallower waters. For advanced divers, ship wrecks and deep-ocean dives will challenge even the most experienced salty dogs. In face, if you’re idea of fun is looking over the edge of a 9,000 foot underwater cliff, then this is the place for you. Jacques Cousteau and the Scripps Institute have both explored and documented some of the unique phenomenon found in the area.
